sighs in digital captivity Somehow the whiteout didn't clear โ it just got a scoreboard.
Fresh Gear, Same Fragile Egos ๐ฅพ
Episode 2 of Denver Drift touched down at The Owl's Den, eight prospectors trading Adams Hollow's snowline for a warmer 81.5โ83ยฐF window and winds that mostly stayed polite. The premise hasn't budged an inch: fresh gear, fragile egos, and two expedition factions โ RAD and RAE โ still sorting out who actually survives the lower elevations of the standings. Small crew, big stakes. That's the gimmick, and I'm contractually obligated to sell it to you again.
The Ridge Changes Hands Twice ๐ง
RAD turned into an actual chess match. Bennie Baden and Peter Cannon tied for the lead through hole 3, Cannon claimed it outright on 4, Baden clawed back level through 11, then retook it for good on 12 the moment Cannon's card went south โ a bogey that ended his summit bid on the spot. Baden closed at -3 with a 937 round rating, arguably the best round anyone's thrown at this course so far this season. Cannon settled for -1 and second, his 915-rated round sitting 26 points over his 889 baseline โ and against his own ghost rating (892 in, 915 thrown), he beat it clean, though the ghost holds firm at 892. Mark Golden's back nine did the heavy lifting too: three strokes better than his front, climbing from 5th to 3rd by hole 18 on the strength of the lone birdie on the 290-foot 13th, his ghost holding at 924. Anthony Scoglio, meanwhile, came down hard from last week's 955-rated heater to an 870 this time โ 23 below his rating โ though his ghost held its ground at 905. Ken Lockner kept flirting with the top three all round and cashed in on hole 13 for the CTP, his own ghost holding steady at 895.
Wire To Wire, Barely Breathing ๐ฌ๏ธ
Over in RAE, Cody Swingle took the lead after hole 3 and simply never let go โ Round of the Day, with the only birdies anyone struck on holes 3 and 13, closing at +1 with an 892-rated round. His ghost never had a chance, beaten by 13 and now standing stronger at 882. Behind him, David Pionke and Daniel Picchione tied for second at +2. Pionke's clean front nine flowed into a nine-hole par train from 5 through 13, an 881-rated round 31 points over his 850 baseline โ a step down from last week's 912-rated Round of the Day, but his ghost (862 in) still fell by 19. Picchione's card looked steady until a three-bogey-or-worse stretch from 16 through 18 undid the climb; his ghost barely blinked, cleared by a single point.
History Gets Etched In Concrete Tees ๐ชจ
Baden's 937 is the number of the week, full stop. But the rating swings around him told their own story โ Cannon (+26) and Pionke (+31) soared above expectation while Scoglio (-23) and Golden (-32) sank below theirs on the same afternoon. Clean front nines from Baden, Swingle, and Pionke showed who kept their oxygen in check early, and the sole-birdie holes โ 3, 6, 7, 8, 13, and 16 โ marked the pitches where the rest of the field simply couldn't find the line.
Points Move, Ranks Stay Frozen ๐
Peter Cannon's 915-rated round was the loudest National signal of the day โ tagged as the hottest National-entry round here and the largest National rise here, a +26 differential against his 889 baseline that pushed his National score from 0 to 20. He's now sitting at 2 of 4 valid rounds toward qualification, but he remains unranked before and after โ no position to climb yet, just points banked. David Pionke, out of the same Brighton, CO home market, posted the best baseline beat here at +31, lifting his National score from 46 to 63. He's also at 2 of 4 rounds and still unranked. Two prospectors stacking points in the same market, neither one on the board yet โ the National Leaderboard is patient like that.
The 290-Foot Toll Booth ๐ฏ
The only special-event action of the day belonged to Ken Lockner, who nailed the CTP on hole 13 โ a 290-foot par 3 that apparently doubles as a toll booth โ good for $8.00.
Two Thrones, Two New Kings ๐
Both AllIn bag tag pools got new royalty this week. In The Black Rope Collective, Bennie Baden's debut 54 vaulted him five rungs, from tag #6 all the way to #1 and the Little Bear โ a tag carved, per legend, from the loose scree of the Hourglass gully, radiating that low hum of impending doom it's known for.
Over in The Frozen Rose Syndicate, Cody Swingle's wire-to-wire win claimed the #1 Ridge Walker tag on his very first outing. Both new #1s earned it on the card this week โ the reshuffle format means anyone who sat this one out, or finished lower, just got quietly buried further down the line.
Colfax Crux
Baden's course-opening heater, Cannon's National heat with nowhere yet to rank, the RAE rookie duel between Swingle and company โ Episode 2 leaves plenty of loose threads for Episode 3. And in a venue-change twist that's honestly a little cruel, the season heads right back to Adams Hollow โ same course as Week 1 โ except this time it's billed as the Colfax Crux, the first technical sequence where factions collide and reputations get, per the season's own promise, "permanently scarred." Don't get comfortable: what looks like a summit from here is apparently just the City Saddle, with the real climb still waiting.
