Can't Put the Stone Down
Aspects refreshed Jul 31, 2026
When the first pioneers drove their axes into the PNW mud to stake claims, they didn't just mark land - they incurred an obligation to the land itself. The Stumptown Settlement was founded on this principle: claim anything, and you owe a debt to everything that came before you. The Debt cannot be paid off, only transferred through territorial challenge.
Pioneer Debt manifests as a weathered ledger stone, its surface covered in hand-carved tally marks that glow faintly with a sickly amber light. The stone is heavy in the hand, cold to the touch, and bears the brands of every previous holder. As a player accumulates more territory and successfully defends claims, the stone grows heavier and the tally marks multiply. The Debt glows brighter when the holder's territory is threatened.
Pioneer Debt serves as a measure of a player's commitment to the settlement - those who have accumulated substantial debt cannot abandon their claims without consequence. It creates the economy of the land rush: when you challenge a territory holder, you accept a portion of their Debt along with the territory. Higher Debt means higher stakes in every subsequent challenge.

Carved from the original Stumptown property dispute, Tag #7 isn't a prize—it's a past-due notice. The Pioneer Debt is a heavy ledger stone that gains mass the more you win. It glows amber when your territory is threatened, mostly just to mock your course management. Pick it up, and you owe the mud interest.
Jeffrey Wright didn't just claim Tag #7, the Pioneer Debt; he signed a mortgage he can't default on. It’s a heavy stone that gains mass with every win. He wanted plastic glory; he got a glowing ledger that mocks his course management. The interest payments are due in birdies, Jeffrey.
