Bitter Pill
More Bitter Than Your Missed Putts

The Bitter Pill was forged in the space between rounds, when competitors realize they've been outplayed but must continue fighting anyway. It embodies the moment when a defending champion tastes defeat for the first time and must either swallow that bitterness and adapt, or let it consume them. The tag manifests when a player faces the harsh reality that their position is under genuine threat.
The Bitter Pill appears as a split-open medicine capsule, its two halves hinged and slightly ajar to reveal crushed, bitter powder within. One half bears the etched ranking number of whoever currently holds it, while the other half shows the ghost-imprint of every previous holder. The powder inside shifts and settles with each round, rising toward the opening when the bearer's position is threatened. The capsule's surface is cool to the touch but leaves a lingering aftertaste of bitterness on anyone who handles it too long.
The Bitter Pill serves as a warning to those who become complacent in their ranking, manifesting when a competitor's position is more fragile than they realize. It embodies the psychological warfare of the gauntlet - not all attacks come from opponents, some come from the bitter truth of one's own vulnerabilities.
