The Mourning Bell was forged in the inaugural season of the Underdark when the original thirteen mercenary delvers made a blood pact at the tournament's first twilight. They swore that no delver would ever be truly forgotten - whoever falls, their memory would echo in the bell, ringing softly with each death. The bell has grown heavier with each season, accumulating the names and legacies of every competitor who has been stripped of their relic and faded into shadow.

An ancient hand bell forged from corroded bronze, its surface covered in tiny etched faces - each one a delver who has fallen throughout the league's history. The bell emits a perpetual cold hum and absorbs light from its surroundings, creating a sphere of shadow. When rung, the faces upon its surface seem to shift and murmur, whispering the names of the fallen. The bell's weight increases with each delver that falls, making it physically heavier to carry as the league grows.

The Mourning Bell serves as both memorial and legacy conduit - it preserves the memory of fallen delvers while granting the current holder the unique ability to absorb one trait from any competitor who has fallen from the league. This creates a powerful incentive for delvers to hold onto their tags (to avoid being absorbed) while also making the bell a coveted prize for those seeking to gain an edge through the accumulated power of the fallen.
