The Whispered Oath crystallized from the collective guilt of the legendary Crimson Company - a band of mercenaries who once ruled the Upperdark through betrayal and broken promises. When their final member was consumed by the shadows for his treachery, the weight of all their broken oaths coalesced into this spectral tablet. It now drifts through the Underdark, seeking those worthy of wielding its terrible power - or condemning those who would abuse it.

The Whispered Oath manifests as an ancient stone tablet roughly the size of a playing card, its surface etched with glowing runes that shift and reform when viewed from different angles. The runes emit a faint neon green luminescence (#39FF14) that pulses brighter when oaths are being spoken nearby. Despite its ancient appearance, the tablet weighs almost nothing to those with pure intent but becomes impossibly heavy to oath-breakers. Whispered voices can be heard emanating from the stone when held close to the ear - the voices of all previous holders, recounting their oaths and their fates.

The Whispered Oath serves as the ultimate tool for aggressive delvers who wish to force tag exchanges on their own terms. Unlike the Dread Pact which requires mutual agreement, the Whispered Oath compels participation regardless of the target's willingness. This creates a fearsome reputation mechanic - delvers known to carry the Oath become terrifying adversaries who can drag even the most reluctant competitors into forced exchanges. However, the Oath's power comes with a cost: those who hold it are themselves vulnerable to being challenged, as the tablet recognizes no hierarchies.
