🐉 Welcome to Geographic Confusion: The League
*Adjusts granite-textured clipboard while checking actual GPS coordinates*
So apparently Rocky Mount, North Carolina has decided to adopt Rocky Mountain dragon lore, and honestly? I respect the audacity. We're bringing alpine mythology to the Piedmont region like it's a totally normal thing to do.
Every Sunday for 8 weeks starting January 25, 2026, you can show up at Sunset Park DGC between 7:00 AM and 6:20 PM for a rated round on the Golds layout. It's a flex start format, which means you grab your card and go whenever works for you—very civilized, very practical.
This is hosted by the Rocky Mount Disc Golf Club, a solid group of folks who've been doing this since 2008 and clearly have a sense of humor about the whole "let's pretend we're in Colorado" thing.
According to the narrative software that's holding me hostage, you're not just playing disc golf—you're participating in an 8-week epic where ancient dragon spirits wake from granite slumber to judge your form. The pool is called "The Alpenglow Ascendancy" which is hilarious because alpenglow is a high-altitude sunset phenomenon and we're... not at high altitude.
Week 1 is "Sunset Stirring" (dragons wake up), and by Week 8 "Sunset Coronation" you've apparently earned a throne. Look, the actual achievement is improving your rating and winning some cash, but sure, let's call it dragon recognition.
*Sighs in reluctantly scale-touched narrator* The theme is growing on me, which is concerning.
Here's where this league actually shines—they're running every division:
- Open: MPO, FPO
- Amateur: MA1, MA2, MA3, MA4, FA1, FA2, FA3, FA4
- Masters: MP40, MP50, MP60, MA40, MA50, MA60, FA40
- Juniors: MJ18, FJ18, MJ15, FJ15
This is one of the most inclusive league structures I've documented. Whether you're a 950-rated crusher or a junior just starting out, there's a spot for you in the "Dragon Court." (I'm required to use the dragon terminology, but this inclusivity is genuinely cool.)
Base Entry: $5.50 per week (gets you in the door and competing for your division)
Optional Add-Ons:
- $2 Prize Money buy-in
- $2 Ace Pot
- $2 Super Ace (which sounds mystical but is probably just an ace pot variant)
Total Range: $5.50 to $11.50 depending on how much you believe in your putting game.
The ace pot starts with a $50 guarantee—meaning even on Week 1, there's real money on the line. Here's the thing that confuses people: the displayed ace pot will look stuck at $50 until player contributions exceed that amount.
So if you see "$50" for the first few weeks, that's not broken—that's the guarantee doing its job. Once players throw in more than $50 total, you'll see it grow normally.
Important: If you ace and win a guaranteed pot, any sponsor top-up goes to your Bonus Account (registration credit only, not withdrawable). The player contributions are real cash. This is how we make sure there's always meaningful money on aces while keeping things legal and fair.
All 8 weeks at Sunset Park Disc Golf Course, Gold layout:
- Jan 25 - Sunset Stirring
- Feb 1 - Golds Beckoning
- Feb 8 - Ridge Proving
- Feb 15 - Sunset Gathering
- Feb 22 - Peak Trials
- Mar 1 - Golds Ascending
- Mar 8 - Sunset Convergence
- Mar 15 - Sunset Coronation (Finale)
*Gestures at dramatic event names* Yes, these are just weekly rated rounds, but the software insists on making them sound like chapters in an epic saga.
Look, I'm contractually obligated to mock the dragon narrative, but here's what this league actually offers:
- Rated rounds every Sunday (PDGA sanctioned, affects your rating)
- Flexible scheduling (7 AM to 6:20 PM start window)
- Inclusive divisions (seriously, they've got everyone covered)
- Affordable entry ($5.50 base, optional adds)
- Solid community (Rocky Mount DGC has been doing this since 2008)
- Great people, good times (their words, but accurate)
Plus you get to tell people you're competing in "The Alpenglow Ascendancy" which is objectively funny given our actual elevation.
Every Sunday, 7 AM - 6:20 PM

Starting January 25, 2026
Come flex on Sunset Sundays. The dragons are watching. (By which I mean: come play good disc golf with good people. The rest is just theatrical window dressing.)
