The Roots Don't Forget
Can't Run From Roots
Aspects refreshed Jun 27, 2026
Rootbind emerged from the first pioneer who refused to abandon their claim during the devastating McCormick flood of the settlement's founding year. Rather than flee with the others, they dug their heels into the riverbank and refused to yield. The ancient cottonwood's roots grew around their ankles, binding them to the land. The land accepted their sacrifice, and the binding was complete - a permanent recognition that transcends normal territorial claims.
The Rootbind tag appears as a gnarled wooden disc with visible root tendrils extending from its edges, as if it's still actively growing. The grain patterns shift between the holder's claimed territory and distant forests, showing connection points across the settlement. The tag grows warmer when the holder's territory is threatened, cannot be transferred through normal means - only earned through surviving a siege - and vibrates in proximity to other Rootbind holders, creating an invisible network of land-acknowledged pioneers.
Rootbind marks players who have achieved permanent residence in the Stumptown Settlement - their claims cannot be contested through normal means because they are recognized by the land itself. When a player holds this tag, they carry the weight of the wilderness's blessing, signifying that they belong to the PNW as much as the PNW belongs to them.
