Grim Chronicle

The Grim Chronicle emerged spontaneously from the first tag exchange in the Raleigh Underdark - when the initial relic was stolen and the ambient magical energy of the dungeon crystallized into a record-keeping artifact. It has grown with every exchange since, its pages expanding to contain the complete history of the league. The ancient delvers who witnessed its creation recognized it as the Underdark's desire to remember, to ensure that no legend would fade into obscurity.

The Chronicle manifests as a massive leather-bound tome with pages that rewrite themselves in real-time, covered in heavy chain and marked with silver runes that glow faintly in darkness. The cover bears a stylized eye surrounded by swirling patterns resembling both words and maps. The tome grows heavier with each recorded exchange, and when a significant historical event occurs - such as a dramatic upset or a season-ending raid - the pages pulse with ethereal light visible to all nearby delvers. Different text appears depending on who reads it: the bearer sees their complete personal history while others see only what the Chronicle wishes to reveal.

The Chronicle serves as the Underdark's collective memory and information infrastructure. It provides any bearer with complete historical records of any delver in the league, enabling strategic preparation for raids. However, holding the Chronicle marks the bearer as a keeper of truths - they become immune to deception about past events but also become targets for those who wish to control or destroy historical records.
