The entity known as the Hearth Keeper was not born of a single spirit, but coalesced from countless fragments of forgotten kindness at Timmons Mill. In the golden age before Scrooge's greed, gestures were made—a shared flask on a cold day, a helping hand searching for a lost disc in the millpond rushes, a patient word for a novice's errant throw. These ephemeral moments of fellowship, though seemingly lost when the gates were locked, left faint imprints upon the very stones and soil. When the Third Spirit showed Scrooge the desolate future, the collective yearning for those lost connections grew so potent it gave form to their memory. Thus, from the cold ashes of exclusion, the Hearth Keeper sparked to life, a guardian born not of one ghost, but of the community's own unextinguished embers.
The Hearth Keeper's presence is felt first as a sudden, localized warmth that defies the winter air, like standing before a roaring fire on a frosted fairway. A soft, golden-orange glow emanates from its core, casting long, dancing shadows distinct from the cold blue-white of other specters. The air carries the comforting scent of burning oak and spiced cider. Its form is less a solid figure and more a concentration of luminous, gently swirling hearth-smoke, within which faint, smiling faces of past mill visitors sometimes flicker. It produces a low, resonant hum akin to a contented sigh, and where it passes, frost recedes from chains and a gentle, dry patch appears on damp cobblestones.
A custodian of the communal flame, the Hearth Keeper tends to the fragile spark of fellowship wherever it is found or kindled. It drifts silently between groups, its warmth strengthening bonds and encouraging shared stories. It is drawn to moments of teaching, where patience is offered freely, and to instances of celebration for another's success. The entity's primary function is to protect these small fires of community from the chilling winds of isolation and competitive spite, ensuring that the joy of gathering, once restored, cannot be so easily snuffed out again. It is the embodied antithesis of the locked pro shop—a spirit whose very nature is open-handed sharing.

The Carol Singers
The Carol Singers embody the spirit of Christmas morning redemption and community restoration. These players see Hagood Mill as a sacred gathering place where joy multiplies when shared. They play with open hearts, welcoming newcomers with spare discs and patient teaching. Their scorecards matter less than the laughter echoing across fairways. They understand that the true chains that matter are the ones linking the community together, not the ones that once bound Scrooge to his greed.
