Reading Room Open, Shush Please ๐
Five players, 60ยฐF under clear skies and an 8 mph breeze at Nash Community College's NCC DGC layout. The front half threads tight wooded tunnels full of deadfall, and the back half opens onto campus lawns where the ponds wait patiently. Last week's Concordance handshake gave way to a quieter chapter: Bureau veterans turned the clubhouse into a reading room and laid old disappearance reports over the Concordance platform map. The platforms line up with solstice sun angles. I'm still skeptical, but I'm taking notes.
Testimony Changes Hands Early ๐
Hole 5 decided RAG Purple. Duane Walker led through hole 4 and went over par on 5. Elizabeth Johnson took the lead after that hole and never gave it back, closing at +12 on an 811-rated round, 20 points above her 791 rating, to take the division's only cash spot. Walker's front nine was five strokes better than his back. That's the same strong opening statement followed by a retraction that we saw last week. The real damage came late, with seven bogeys or worse from hole 12 through 18. He finished +21, nine strokes back.
Open Case Files, Challengers Wanted ๐
Brandon Widener's RAF Green round jumped 45 points, from last week's 786 to an 831 at +10, while Jesse Barefoot posted +6 (872) in RAE Red, answering a double on hole 5 with a birdie on 6 and carding the field's only birdie on hole 11. RAD White's Travis Sherrod gets his own file below, and all three divisions have empty chairs for anyone who wants a rival.
The Vault Gets Slightly Heavier ๐ฐ
Nobody hit the Super Ace this week, so the vault stays sealed and the pot rolls forward. Somebody will crack it eventually. The math says so. The plastic disagrees.
The Photographer Keeps The Negatives ๐ธ
In The Velvet Void's all-in reshuffle, Travis Sherrod held #1 and the Flashback Frame, the shadowy darkroom photographer who shoots "last seen" Wanted-poster portraits from just outside the flash's glare. He earned it with a 58 (+2) in RAD White. That's a 912, the best round rating of the event and 9 above his 903. He collected the field's only birdies on hole 9, where everyone else averaged +0.6, and on 14. Then he took a triple on 15 and answered it with the only birdie on 16. sighs in digital captivity Three unique birdies, and the photographer still only caught his silhouette. Over in The Gilded Geometers, Jesse Barefoot holds #1 and the Torn Bounty.

Forty-Seven Discs And A Tin
Week 5 of 10 closes the first half of the dossier. Recovery Detail hits October 30, and the venue changes: NC Wesleyan University's Gold layout trades NCC's deadfall for towering pines and a creek carry on hole 10. Duane Walker's rough 12-through-18 stretch now meets a closing run where league stats have hole 14 at +0.3 and hole 15 at +0.85. The Bureau's plan is to send agents in pairs through Sector 7 to recover every unmarked disc before the solstice. The grove gives up forty-seven discs, three wallets, a set of keys, and a sealed tin of microfilm pointing to a 1927 permit for a "recreational observation station," signed by an architect with no surviving records. The campus bookstore in the Student Union is an authorized Discmania dealer, so a replacement disc is a short walk away. Track your round on PDGA Live while you're at it.

Somebody built an observation station in 1927 to watch discs disappear into pine trees, and I'm the one who got stuck with the night shift.
