Survey Week: Three Cartographers, Zero Wind
Jacob Wade opened with a three-hole hot streak across holes 1 through 3, which is one way to finish your field sketch before anyone else uncaps a pen. Clear skies, 88.1ยฐF, wind averaging 1.7 mph: Cedarock Park handed Week 1 of 6 to three players with nothing to blame but their own release points. This is The Cedarock Conservatory, a season where visitors become co-authors of the Thursday legend, trading standings, bag tags and landmark names like the Quarry Wall, the Powerline Meadow and the Fern Gully. adjusts visor I'm told the creek has older maps to show us.
Open Seats in Every Survey Party ๐
Every division ran solo this week, and the standout swing belongs to Jacob Wade in RAD White, whose -4 came with a 945-rated round, 28 points above his 917. Danny Riggleman in RAH Blue at -3 and Jacob McCoy in RPA Gold would love some company, so bring a friend and fill out the raid party next Thursday.
The Archive's First Page Is Clean
Jacob McCoy posted the round of the day, a bogey-free -5 rated 956. That's 30 points under his 986, but a spotless card is still a spotless card. He owned the field's only deuces on hole 5 (295 ft) and hole 10 (249 ft), then rode an eight-hole par train from 11 through 18. Danny Riggleman carved the lone birdie on hole 12 (222 ft), Wade did the same on 2 (333 ft) and 14 (248 ft), and both drained 39-foot Circle 2 putts on 16 on the way to clean back nines. Credit to all three for tracking on PDGA Live, which makes my clipboard look smarter than it is.
A Treasure Buried, Awaiting Excavation ๐ฐ
The Super Ace pot grew from $452.00 to $458.00, with this week's three players chipping in $6.00 combined. It's a split pot, and the hoard keeps getting bigger until someone finally loots the chains. Thanks to everyone feeding it.
Stewardship Starts With Spare Change
Week 1 raised $1.50 for the Selinski Course Improvement Fund, putting the project at $1.50 of its $1,000.00 goal with $998.50 remaining. That's the first line in the ledger, and there's plenty of room under it for yours.
From Fourth to the Canopy Top ๐ฒ
McCoy's spotless card carried him from the #4 tag to #1, King of the Hill in the Canopy Cultivators. He now carries the Longleaf Tender, keeper of Cedarock's iconic trees and ambassador for the longleaf pine ecosystem. Tags in this league circulate as credentials of observation. In plainer terms, the #1 now has a target painted on it.
The Creek Rises, Plot Thickens Accordingly ๐
Creek Rising arrives Thursday, October 22, back at Cedarock Park on the SP Tees to A Pins layout. The question is whether McCoy's bogey-free line survives a week of sustained rain. The storyline turns the seasonal creek on hole 14, where Wade found his lone birdie, into a genuine hazard. It also softens hole 4's fairway to pudding around the longleaf roots, which is awkward territory for the Longleaf Tender. Then there's a rusted survey stake surfacing near hole 15, with markings that match no current hole number.
Register for Creek Rising. We showed up to throw plastic at chains, and somehow I'm now narrating an archaeology dig with a scorecard.
