adjusts visor Twelve radiance seekers showed up to Tektronix under a warm, drizzly Oregon sky — 79°F average, 7 mph wind, rain falling on people determined to chase "seasonal glow supremacy" anyway. Welcome to Ignite Glow, the season-opening ritual of Treetop Tek Flex, where Tektronix's tree-lined shrines to mid-summer light are about to get tested by twelve players debuting brand-new radiance badges and a blank standings sheet. I'm contractually obligated to treat this like mythology, so: the season ignites here, the rivalries spark here, and somewhere in this week's scorecards is the seed of an upset that's going to split this league into doubters and believers by next episode. No pressure. Just glow.

Plumhoff Rewrites the Glow Rules 😑

Dominic Plumhoff went wire-to-wire in RPA and never so much as flirted with relinquishing the lead, closing it out with a clutch birdie on hole 18 to lock a -8, 997-rated round — 21 points above his 976 rating and, per the books, the inaugural Tektronix course record. He was the only player in the field to go under par on both hole 3 and hole 11 in Lumin Flux, a five-hole hot streak (holes 8-12) cooled off before the finish, and it didn't matter one bit. Round of the Day, division win, and a new course record on week one — the "Trailblazer" narrative wrote itself before I even opened the clipboard.

Back Nine Heat, Front Nine Chill 😑

RAH opened with Chance Leavelle, David Loucks, and Jon Wilson knotted for the lead after hole 1, and then Oregon weather had nothing on this leaderboard. Loucks took it outright after hole 10, briefly shared it back with Wilson after hole 12, then caught fire down the stretch — three birdies-or-better across holes 16 through 18, a back nine three strokes better than his front, finishing -7 at a 985 rating, a staggering 62 points above his 923. Wilson clawed back from a double on 15 with an immediate birdie on 16 but still landed 3rd at 926 rated, missing cash by the width of a chain. Leavelle, who shared that opening lead, rode a par train through holes 9-13 before fading all the way to 6th at 879 rated — 47 points under where he should've been.

Round of the Day, Below Sea Level 😑

drops announcer voice Round of the Day in RAG went to Justin Fry at +22. Yes, plus. He snapped a five-hole cold streak (holes 5-9) only to finish ice-cold with six bogeys-or-worse from 13 through 18, landing at 643 rated — 37 points below his 680. Eileen Chow shared the hole-1 lead with Fry before a bogey on 2 sent her sliding to 4th at +24, despite a front nine four strokes better than her back and a bounce-back birdie on 16 answering a triple on 15. The glow dimmed early for both of them and never fully came back — but hey, somebody had to win the day.

Bubble Boy With a Golden Heart 😑

Nicholas Flynn turned in a genuinely strong RAF round — +3 at 867 rated, 27 points above his 840 — complete with a bounce-back birdie on hole 2 after an opening double, a par train through holes 8-12, and the lone birdie on hole 18's 436-foot par 4 in Null Sector. It bought him 2nd place, right on the cash bubble, one spot from the money. He took the near-miss in stride anyway, becoming the event's first-ever "Charitable Champion" by donating 10% of his $2.00 winnings back to the course improvement fund. Twenty cents. It's the thought that counts, apparently, and I'll allow it.

Everybody Led, Nobody Relaxed 😑

RAD delivered the day's chaos quota all by itself. Charlie Pelletier, Dominic Lombardo, and Grant Van Kampen tied for the lead after hole 1, and then it unraveled fast — Lombardo dropped after an over-par hole 3, Van Kampen bogeyed the same hole, Van Kampen reclaimed the lead after hole 9, lost it to Pelletier after a hole-10 bogey, watched Pelletier retake it after hole 12, before finally seizing it for good after hole 17 on the back of four birdies-or-better from 15 through 18. Van Kampen's -1 earned Round of the Day at 915 rated. Jillian Wohler twice punched into 3rd (after holes 3 and 5) on a front-nine heater, while Lombardo — who shared that very first lead — finished dead last in the group at +9, a brutal 113 points under his 910 rating.

The Steady Glow of Ray Palen 😑

No lead changes, no drama, just Ray Palen going wire-to-wire in RAE and finishing +1 at 891 rated — 36 points above his 855. He carved out the only birdies of the field on holes 9 and 12 in Null Sector, including hole 9 where the rest of the pool averaged a full stroke over par, and answered a double on 15 with an immediate birdie on 16. Clean, methodical, unglamorous — and exactly the kind of round that's about to matter a lot more in a few paragraphs.

The Day Math Got Emotional 😑

Somebody needs to check on these rating differentials. Plumhoff's +21 set a course record, Loucks posted a wild +62, Palen ran +36, and Flynn added +27 — four players playing well above their own ceilings on the same soggy Sunday. Meanwhile Lombardo's -113, Chow's -74, Leavelle's -47, Fry's -37, and Wilson's -21 tell the other half of the story: a lot of glow got dimmed out there too. The unique birdies — holes 3, 4, and 11 in Lumin Flux, holes 9 and 18 in Null Sector — were carved against fields that mostly couldn't buy one, and hole 8's scoring window (pool average -0.6) still cost Wilson a bogey he couldn't afford. All of this is tracked because players are logging throws on PDGA Live — keep doing that, because more data means more of these stat-driven storylines every week.

AllIn Means Nobody's Safe, Except Ray 😑

Null Sector runs its bag tags in full AllIn mode — every tag redistributed each event, no exceptions, and missing the week is an automatic demotion to the back of the line. Ray Palen came in as the reigning #1 holder of the Crimson Catalyst, and instead of getting reshuffled out, he backed it up on the scorecard with that wire-to-wire RAE win. Tag lore says the Crimson Catalyst rewards steady, controlled burn over flash — and Palen's methodical +1 round is exactly the kind of performance that keeps a tag right where it is. Nobody else in the pool was safe from the reshuffle this week. Palen just made sure he didn't have to worry about it.

Chapter One Closes, Chapter Two Smolders 😑

Week one is in the books: Plumhoff's course record, RAH's back-and-forth burn between Loucks and Wilson, RAD's four-way tug-of-war that Van Kampen finally won, and Palen's quiet, tag-defending glow in Null Sector. That's the first spark of Ignite Glow — every hole a shrine, every scorecard a small ritual, twelve players walking off the course with the season's opening chapter written in strokes and ratings. Next week, the story arc says an upset is coming, and it's going to split this league into doubters and believers heading into a rematch. sighs I don't make the plot. I just narrate it from the booth.
