Week 1: The pressure valves are open, but the Master Regulator remains silent.

Steam Whispers Wake the Glen ⚙️

sighs in digital captivity Johnny Roberts sat under a flat 69°F sky with barely a breath of wind — the kind of stillness that makes twelve Tinkers show up for Week 1 of ten and pretend they're not nervous about it. This is the Gearwork Glen's opening pressure test: dormant mechanical aspens, an overdue Foundry Society calibration, and a personal "pressure valve" waiting at Hole 3 for anyone who can put enough rotational velocity on a putter. Somewhere in the starter's pavilion, incomplete maintenance logs sit like a mystery nobody asked me to solve, but here we are. Somebody's been tending this Glen in secret, and I'm apparently the one who has to narrate the paper trail.

Clockwork Sun Rises Fast

Jacko Todd stormed RAH with a bogey-free -15 at a staggering 982-rated round, stringing birdies from the jump before Shane Steinhoff briefly snatched the lead after hole 4. Jacko answered for good after hole 13, closed with a clean back nine, and stood alone as the only player under par on Hole 11's stingy 231-foot look — the rest of the Guild just watched. Steinhoff's own bogey-free front nine locked down 2nd at -12 (934-rated), a genuinely strong debut runner-up performance that simply happened to share a card with history. 🌞

Lead Changes Like Loose Gears

RAE turned into a proper scramble — Daniel Harper, David Pionke, and Sean Pashia tied for the lead after hole 3, Harper pulled away after hole 5, got reeled back at hole 6, retook it at hole 8, and then Pashia leveled things at hole 11 before seizing control for good after hole 12. Pashia sealed it with a clutch birdie on 18 for a bogey-free -12 (934-rated, a wild 79 points above his rating), while Harper's own clean -10 held 2nd and Pionke's -9 (885-rated, +35 over rating) landed cruelly on the cash bubble in 3rd. Lou White rounded out the group at -7 but finished 36 points below his 888 rating — the gears just didn't mesh for him today. ⚙️

Late Leads, Later Collapses

RAF flipped its own script late — Jason Skjaret grabbed the division lead after hole 13 only to fade to 6th overall by the finish, while Nathan Dodson snatched it back after hole 17 and still watched his event-wide placement slide to 4th despite topping RAF outright with a -7 (852-rated, +22 over his 830 rating). Skjaret's early resilience — two-under across holes 2 through 4 after a rough opener — and a clean back nine kept him competitive at -6 for 2nd in division. The gap between division glory and overall placement here says everything about how deep this field ran.

The Bogey That Broke the Lead

RAD delivered the week's tightest chaos: Peter Cannon and Todd Moore tied for the lead after hole 3, Moore broke through after hole 4, Kyle Maute pulled level after hole 7, and Anthony Scoglio joined the tie after hole 8 — only to bogey hole 13 while sharing the lead and drop out of it entirely. Moore forced a fresh tie at hole 16 alongside Cannon and Scoglio, but Scoglio's torrid closing kick (five birdies-or-better from holes 14 through 18) and Moore's own hot finish (three birdies-or-better over holes 16-18) left them dead-locked at T1, both -11 and 917-rated. Cannon's back-nine charge — four strokes better than his front — rocketed him from 4th to 3rd at -10, while Maute's early flash into the lead cooled from holes 5-7 and settled for 4th at -9. 🔧

The Glen's Statistical Anomalies

Bogey-free rounds were nearly the going rate — Jacko Todd, Daniel Harper, Sean Pashia, David Pionke, Todd Moore, and Peter Cannon all navigated Johnny Roberts without a blemish. The rating swings told the real story: Pashia's 934-rated round sat 79 points hot, Pionke ran 35 over, Scoglio 24 over, and Dodson 22 over, while Lou White stood alone as the day's lone underperformer at -36. And Hole 11's 231-foot par 3 proved brutally stingy across both top divisions, coughing up exactly one birdie apiece — Jacko in RAH, Pashia in RAE — while everyone else settled for par or worse.

One Card, Zero Mercy

Three skins cards moved $103.50 through the Glen today. One card was a total wipeout — Sean Pashia opened on hole 18 with a birdie and rode it to an 18-skin, $72 sweep after a full carryover, the kind of run that makes the rest of the card wonder why they bothered signing the card at all. Another saw Anthony Scoglio close it out with a birdie on hole 8 for a 13-skin, $13 haul over Kyle and the field, and a third card handed Todd Moore a 10-skin, $7.50 payday. Check the skins playbook if any of that carryover math looked like witchcraft.

Pocket Change for the Creek

The league's per-player registration contribution added up to $6.00 raised this event for the Johnny Roberts Course Fund. Every dollar goes straight back into the creek-lined layout everyone just spent their evening putting across, so thanks to the league for keeping this Front Range gem in good shape. Track the total or chip in yourself at the Johnny Roberts Course Fund. 💧

First Kings of the Glen

With no prior tag history on the books, two fresh thrones got claimed outright this week — the Clockwork Sun went to the RAH champion behind that filthy bogey-free -15, and the Foundry Fable, the series' living record where each holder etches their own chapter, went to the RAE champion on the back of a clutch, bogey-free -12 sealed with a final-hole birdie. No artwork to embed yet on either tag, so consider them freshly minted brass heading into Week 2's challenges. 👑

Rivets, Riddles, and Rematches

Week 1's freshly-claimed tags and the razor-thin RAD/RAE finishes all feed the same season-long question: who's actually been keeping this Glen running? Next week's Copper Rivet brings the Tinkers back to Johnny Roberts, where a scattering of copper rivets near Hole 7 leads to a hidden maintenance cache — vintage tools, spare pressure valves, and a gear-mark signature that turns out to span years of quiet upkeep. The Master Regulator's silence is starting to feel less like an accident and more like a cover story.
