Scoggins Erases Six-Stroke Deficit with 1046-Rated Final Round to Capture Memorial

Ohn Scoggins delivered one of the most dramatic comebacks in Memorial Championship history, firing a 1046-rated final round of 49 (-10) to erase a six-stroke deficit and capture The Memorial Championship presented by Discraft at Red Mountain - South in Scottsdale, AZ. Scoggins finished at -22 overall, beating defending champion Jennifer Allen by five strokes after an 11-stroke swing in the final round. Allen had led wire-to-wire through three rounds, building her advantage to six strokes after a 1020-rated Round 3, but Scoggins' historic performance turned the tournament on its head.

The final round unfolded with seismic shifts from the outset. On the tournament's hardest hole, the 276-foot par-3 second, Scoggins took the sole lead for the first time all weekend—a moment that signaled the collapse of Allen's 54-hole command. Scoggins then unleashed relentless pressure with multiple stretches of consecutive under-par holes: four straight starting at the 348-foot fourth, another four at the 371-foot ninth, and three more at the 256-foot 14th. Navigating Red Mountain South's saguaro-studded desert terrain, Scoggins' precision shot-shaping and composure under championship pressure proved unstoppable, turning a six-stroke deficit into a five-stroke victory.

Allen's tournament arc was one of brilliant consistency followed by devastating collapse. The defending champion had posted rounds of -5, -5, and -8 through the first three days, appearing poised for a dominant wire-to-wire defense of her 2025 title. Her final-round 60 (+1), rated just 940, represented a nine-stroke drop from her previous round and 32 points below her average. Despite the heartbreaking finish, Allen's -17 overall secured solo second place, a testament to her three rounds of excellence before the championship pressure finally broke through on the Sonoran Desert layout.

Throughout the field, several players delivered strong closing performances. Kona Star Montgomery fired a 978-rated -3 round, 40 points above her rating, to secure solo third at -3 overall—her best round of the tournament. Violet Main bounced back with a 969-rated -2 to finish fourth at +1 overall, while Ashley Phelps (+5), Nathalie Ortiz (E), Sarah Isaac (E), and Lillianne Waite (E) all navigated the desert course's technical demands in the final round.

Scoggins' victory represents the culmination of a tournament-long progression that saw her save her best for last. Her round-by-round scores of -1, -7, -4, and -10 tell the story of a player who steadily improved before delivering a masterpiece when it mattered most. The A-tier win at one of disc golf's most prestigious events will stand as one of the greatest final-round comebacks in Memorial Championship history, achieved against a defending champion who had dominated for 54 holes. In the harsh Arizona sun at Red Mountain South, Scoggins proved that championship pressure can both break legends and create new ones.
