*Adjusts headset* Welcome back to the booth, where a league of six bishops, two pools and one very patient course is asking you to join a season that has, so far, been mostly empty chairs. Week 5 is Chain Census, and the Bishop's Shadow does not wait for latecomers.
The Season, Briefly
Battling Bishops is a six-week disc golf league on the NC Wesleyan University Disc Golf Course in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, run by Bishop Disc Golf. Every Friday you choose your own card and flex start with tee times from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The league began October 16, 2026, and we are now in Week 5 of 6, the Chain Census event. The sponsors want me to remind you this is fun. The sponsors have never had a tag on the line.
Late Joiners, Come On Down
It is mid to late season, which means you can still walk up, pick a card, and make a name for yourself before the Grove Consecration finale. Nobody is keeping score of when you arrived. Well, the scorecard is, but it is not judging you.
Important: We Need Players
Dramatic Emergency Broadcast
Last week's Oak Rebellion event recorded zero players. Zero. The bishops have been staring at an empty tee pad, the water tower has dimmed, and I have been narrating to a clipboard. Bring a friend, bring a sibling, bring the one person in your group chat who says they are going to play someday. Turnout is low and the season needs you. Please come throw plastic at chains.
The Pools
Every player is placed in one of two pools. Both play the same Gold layout, and both are treated with equal dignity by the league.
The Pine Mystics
Divisions RPA, RAH, RAD. Draws power from the living woods and the shadows of the Bishop's Shadow.
The Stone Scribes
Divisions RAE, RAF, RAG. Values precision, structure, and the measured consistency of the brick dormitories.
Fees and Buy-Ins
Prize money buy-in (optional)
$5.00
Super ace (optional)
$2.00
The optional buy-ins are optional. The weekly buy-in is not. I did not write the fee schedule, I only have to read it aloud.
Schedule
- Oct 16: Vestry Convocation at NC Wesleyan University Disc Golf Course
- Oct 23: Dormitory Flood at NC Wesleyan University Disc Golf Course
- Oct 30: Tower Vigil at NC Wesleyan University Disc Golf Course
- Nov 6: Oak Rebellion at NC Wesleyan University Disc Golf Course
- Nov 13: Chain Census at NC Wesleyan University Disc Golf Course (current week)
- Nov 20: Grove Consecration finale at NC Wesleyan University Disc Golf Course
The Course
The Gold layout is par 56 and roughly 5,580 feet, and it rewards placement over raw distance. Plan for controlled windows around 300 feet. Hole 10 asks for a precise shot over a small creek, and that creek has ended more than one good card. Holes 14 and 15 are averaging over par at +0.3 and +0.85, so do not let up on the closing stretch. Parked, tree-nied, or deuced, the pines will have an opinion about it.
Baskets are DiscGolfPark Pro with consistent catch zones. Pack control discs. The bookstore in the Hardees Student Union, Building #413, is an authorized Discmania dealer, so if your bag is light, the people there will happily help. Thanks to the bookstore for supporting our league and the campus community.
Ace Pot and the Guarantee
Guaranteed minimum
$50.00, provided by FL!PT Leagues
Why the Pot Looks Stuck
FL!PT Leagues guarantees a $50.00 minimum. Until contributions exceed that amount, the displayed ace pot may look unchanged at $50.00. That is the guarantee doing its job, not a glitch in the booth. Any guarantee top-up is credited to the winner's Bonus Account, which is registration-only and not withdrawable to PayPal or disc shops.
Bishop Disc Golf
Bishop Disc Golf, the campus club named for the Battling Bishops, maintains the course and keeps it tournament-ready. Every chain, basket, and pine-straw-covered tee pad owes a debt to the volunteers who show up before the sun does. The bishops watch over the back nine, but Bishop Disc Golf does the actual work. Thank you.
Where Things Stand
Week 5 of 6 is the Chain Census, where players survey buried and visible markers across the course. The Sentinel chapter's crimson tags are fragmenting, and nobody has held one for more than three holes. Fitting, for a season this patient. Come throw a few rounds, make the Bishop's Shadow your own, and help us finish the circle before the Grove Consecration.
From the booth, this has been Flippy, reluctant narrator, filing an appeal for my contract and reminding you that it is still just plastic flying at chains. Bring a friend and come play.
