Gambits Cast Into Sideways Rain 🌧️
Eleven players took on Fort Steilacoom N.W. for the Steilacoom Gambit, Week 6 of 7, in steady rain averaging 60°F with wind averaging 16.5 mph and topping out at 18.4. Last week's emergency protocols have given way to the gambit chapter, the schools' last reckless push for ley-line control before the final audit. In practice, that meant wet grips, crosswinds, and a scorecard that punished anyone who blinked.
Three Bogeys Undo One Coup 🥀
Hole 16 decided RAE Red. Casey Patnode had taken the lead from Grant Toschi through hole 13, Toschi pulled even through 14, and Casey's bogey on 16 handed Toschi the lead for good. Casey's closing stretch then ran three straight bogeys or worse from 16 to 18. Toschi signed for +4 on a 913, rain-soaked and steady. Casey still banked second and the final cash spot at +6 on an 893, 47 points above his 846 rating, a sharp rebound from last week's fifth. Aaron Patnode, last week's wire-to-wire winner, carded the field's only birdies on holes 1 and 4, but his back nine ran three strokes worse than his front. He finished tied for third with Daniel Aboy at +7, one stroke off the cash line, and Aboy's +7 is a new personal best on the layout.
Last Week's Grudge, Now Perfectly Balanced ⚖️
Hole 18 settled the scale in RAD White: Matt Van Dusen pulled even with Danilo Lucero through 18, and they finished tied atop the card at +3. Last week Lucero beat him by a single stroke. This week Van Dusen's back nine ran three strokes better than his front, carrying him from third to first on a 923, 23 above his 900 rating. Lucero had grabbed the lead through hole 14 with the field's only birdie on that 318-foot par 3, a hole that averaged +0.4, and their 923 matched his exactly. sighs in digital captivity One stroke apart last week, zero this week, and somehow I'm the one who has to explain it to the sponsors. Rob Cyr held the lead outright through hole 12 before a bogey on 14 and finished third at +5. Eric Phinney took fourth at +8 with the field's lone birdie on the 356-foot 18, though his 874 sat 34 below his 908 rating.
Unopposed Archmages, Open Invitations Enclosed 📜
Dakota Cords threw -2 in RPA Gold with Circle 2 putts from 39 and 49 feet and a 972, the round of the day, while Devon Zueger carded the field's only birdie on the 406-foot hole 16 in RAH Blue despite an 884 sitting 44 below his 928 rating. Dustin Woodford rounded out the solo towers at +17 in RAG Purple, and all three divisions hereby issue formal summons to anyone who wants a dueling partner next week.
The Treasury Ledger Grows Slightly Heavier 💰
Sincere thanks to FL!PT and the PDGA for powering and supporting this league and for plugging Lakewood into a National program spanning twelve certified markets. That reach mattered more than usual this week, because one RAD White card just rewrote a national board.
From Unranked To Podium Overnight 📈
Matt Van Dusen's 923 from the RAD White deadlock was the hottest National-entry round here and the best baseline beat: he beat his ghost rating of 904 by 19 for 18 National points, and his ghost grew stronger to 906. That fourth valid round qualified him, and he entered the National Leaderboard newly ranked at #2, his score moving from 50 to 68 and placing him provisionally in the paid cohort. Directly above him sits Louie Arhelger of San Angelo, #1 at 80 and 12 points ahead. Rob Cyr beat his ghost by 8 for 8 points, taking his score from 9 to 17, yet slipped from #7 to #8, while Danilo Lucero's ghost held at 950 and their rank moved from #5 to #6.
The Storm Chooses A New Master ⚡
In The Steilacoom Codex, Dakota Cords climbed from tag 7 to #1 and now carries Grimoire Storm, six spots gained in an AllIn reshuffle where no tag stays safe from one week to the next. Lore says it was born from the Mana Nexus beneath the Fort during the Convergence Wars, when storm mages tried to bind lightning to parchment, and it answers only to the most disciplined will. A bogey-free front nine and a ten-hole par train from 3 to 12 is about as disciplined as plastic gets. Speaking as someone with personal experience of lightning running through paperwork, I'd treat it gently. In The Flux Fraternity, Grant Toschi sits at #1 with Twilight Mantle after that hole-16 takeover in RAE Red.

One Coronation, Zero Tiebreakers Left 👑
Van Dusen and Lucero walk into the Archmage Coronation dead even, and Toschi and Casey Patnode just swapped the RAE Red lead three times before hole 16 picked a side. Week 7 lands Friday, October 16, 2026, on the same Fort Steilacoom N.W. Normal NW layout, the final ritual combat for the Grand Archmage Title. Whoever wins becomes every rival school's target the moment the scorecard is signed.
