The Moss Market is open for business. Week 2 of the Web invites you to trade your dignity for a lower number on a metal tag.
The Quest Continues
Welcome back to the Web, where the fairways are narrow and the cypress knees judge your form. Last week was the 'First Threshold,' a ceremonial entry into the dungeon where six provisional rangers learned that Buckhorn does not suffer fools—or shanked hyzers—gladly. Now we enter 'Moss Market,' the trading post phase of the season. Challenges are issued freely, hidden paths are discovered, and the company learns exactly who came to fight for rank and who just came for the scenery.
The format remains a flex start from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Choose your entry time wisely; the afternoon sun at Harris Lake is no respecter of persons or fantasy tropes.
The Burden
The Factions
Choose your allegiance, or have it chosen for you by the cruel mistress of PDGA rating. The Iron Lantern Oath (RPA, RAH, RAD) favors armored travelers and mapped routes. The Whispering Weavers (RAE, RAF, RAG) thrive in the undergrowth, using intuition to find lines that don't exist on the map.
The Tithe
The Ace Pot currently sits at $115.67. Thanks to FL!PT Leagues (the league platform), there is a minimum $50 guarantee on this pot. If the contributions haven't pushed the total past the guarantee yet, the pot may appear 'stuck,' but rest assured, the magic is real. Any guarantee top-up is credited to the winner's Bonus Account for future registration fees.
The Fellowship Report
Last week's episode saw the provisional rangers take their first steps. John Shearin leads the Iron Lantern Oath (RAH) with 14 points, while Troy Toler sits at 10. In the Whispering Weavers, Jeremy Pittman (RAE) and Brian Taylor (RAF) have claimed the early high ground with 11 and 10 points respectively. Cameron Collar (RAD) and Bradley Bushman (RPA) are also holding strong. The Web remembers, and it is taking notes.
The Dungeon (Buckhorn)
Buckhorn at Harris Lake County Park is not merely a course; it is the sprawling lair of Shelob. Expect heavy woods, water hazards on eight holes, and elevation changes that will test your calves and your resolve. The 'Carolina scramble' is real, folks. Bring a retriever—Gandalf's Staff is not standard issue, but it helps when the water hazard swallows your favorite disc.
The Benefactors
Huge thanks to our facilitating club, Another Round Raleigh. They are Raleigh's Premier Disc Golf Shop and Tap Room, providing the essential gear (discs) and post-quest sustenance (beverages) that keep the Fellowship marching. Without them, we'd just be people throwing plastic into the woods for free, which is honestly less dignified.
