Episode 1: First Lines. The archive is empty, the paths are unworn, and every player arrives as a potential author of the course's Tuesday identity. Six weeks of community-sculpted competitive cartography begin now.
The Premiere
Welcome to the season opener, where nothing has happened yet and everything is possible. Tuesday @ Springwood Players' Course is a six-week limited series running October 13 through November 17, and the theme this season treats every round as a chapter in a living archive. You're not just playing disc golf — you're inscribing memory onto a landscape. Or, as I'm contractually required to frame it: you're throwing plastic at chains, but the LORE says it's more than that.
This is a flex-start league, which means you pick your card and your tee time between 9:00 AM and 4:40 PM. Choose your adventure. Choose your companions. Choose your fate. The Burlington Area Disc Golf Club — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that builds, maintains, and improves the courses we play on — makes all of this possible. They're the foundation. We're just the people walking on it.
The Two Traditions
This league splits into two pools, each with a different relationship to the course. Think of it as two schools of philosophy that happen to share the same fairways.
- Topography Keepers (RPA, RAH, RAD): The stewards of Springwood's physical memory. They honor the mature hardwood corridors, the permanent contours, the slow and deliberate shifts of the earth. The course is a fixed archive; their job is to preserve it. Bag tags like Root Keeper, Canopy Reader, Oak Archivist.
- Arc Cartographers (RAE, RAF, RAG): The mappers of flight paths and seasonal shifts. They see the course as a collaborative sketchbook where every throw adds a temporary layer. The map changes weekly; their job is to redraw it. Bag tags like Path Founder, Creek Judge, Leaf Witness.
Both pools play the same layout: Springwood Players' Course front 10 with Longs on holes 1, 2, 5, 6, and 9. The difference is in how they read the land. One preserves; the other charts. Both throw discs.
Springwood Players' Course
Springwood Players' Course in Whitsett, North Carolina, is a 19-hole layout wrapping around a community sports complex. Yes, 19 holes. Someone committed to the bit and we respect that. The course holds a 4.0 rating from nearly 1,400 reviews — that's not hype, that's a consensus.
The terrain is mostly flat and open, which means wind becomes your co-pilot whether you invited it or not. The course shares space with baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and a greenway trail. Pedestrians and cyclists always have right-of-way. You will at some point wait politely for a jogger while your disc slowly betrays you. This is the social contract of multi-use parks.

Local Knowledge
Weekday mornings are the quietest window. Summer brings greenway traffic. Longer transitions between holes 4-5, 7-8, and 17-18 give you time to contemplate your life choices. Water fountains near hole 15's teepad are a mid-round lifeline.
The Cost of Citizenship
Entry is $6.50 per week — that's your base ticket into the archive. From there, the optional add-ons let you itemize your hope:
Prize Money (optional)
$5.00
Super Ace (optional)
$2.00
A la carte dreaming. The base gets you playing; the extras get you a shot at glory in specific, labeled denominations.
The Ace Pot
The ace pot currently sits at $50.00, and here's the important part: FL!PT Leagues (the league platform) guarantees a $50 minimum. This guarantee is from the platform, not the disc shop. What that means in practice:
- Early in the season, the displayed ace pot may look 'stuck' at $50 — that's the guarantee floor, not a glitch.
- Once weekly contributions exceed $50, the pot will climb above the guarantee on its own.
- If the guarantee needs to top up the pot for a winner, that top-up is credited to the winner's Bonus Account (registration-only; not withdrawable to PayPal or disc shops).
- The ace fund is real and payable. The display just has a safety net while contributions build.
The Arc
Six weeks. Six episodes. All at Springwood Players' Course. The season runs October 13 through November 17, and each week has its own chapter title because apparently we're doing this.

Last Light
This week is First Lines: the season opens with players tracing new paths through the course. Fairways that will become familiar still surprise. Veterans share provisional lines while newcomers discover the deceptive simplicity. By evening, a shared vocabulary begins — 'the oak on fourteen,' 'the false flat on seven' — and the first worn patches appear where feet converge on optimal approaches. The paths chosen now will harden into habit.
The Foundation
The Burlington Area Disc Golf Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit centered on promoting and developing disc golf in the Burlington area. They handle course design, maintenance and improvement, organizing events, education, community volunteering, and service projects. They build the infrastructure. They maintain the baskets. They make sure the grass is mowed and the fairways are fair. Every round you play on a course they steward is a round made possible by their work. That's not dramatic framing — that's just how it works.
From the booth, I'm Flippy. The archive is open. First lines await. Let's see what you write.
