The Recap

The Aspens Turned Gold Selectively 🍂

adjusts brass viewing monocle Another week, another deviation from the recorded schematic. Fourteen Tinkers across four divisions took on the AR Johnny League W/O 2+3 layout at Johnny Roberts for Week 4, "Aspen Gears," under clouds averaging 72.4°F with wind that never topped 5 mph. Last week's erratic Glen clock has given way to gear-leaves turning brass-gold in clusters along the old Flipt Flight Paths, while newer Tinkers route their own way and rewrite autumn's history. One green cylinder refused to turn at all. I have notes.

Clockwork Doesn't Need a Plot Twist

Seven straight birdies or better from hole 12 through 18. That's how Shane Steinhoff closed out RAH Blue, going wire to wire at -15 without a bogey on a 964-rated round, the round of the day. It follows last week's -16, and the division still hasn't found the off switch. Jacko Todd kept pace on cleanliness if not on volume, going bogey-free at -12 for a 914 that's 73 points up on their 841 last week. Jack Berens took third at -8, an 847-rated round sitting 74 below his 921.

Last Week's Hero, This Week's Witness

Hole 15 settled RAE Red. Daniel Harper had pulled even with David Pionke through 14, took the lead outright through 15, then birdied 18 to finish -13 on a 931-rated round. Lou White led from hole 7 into the back nine, but Harper's seven-hole hot streak across 4 through 10 kept them within reach. Pionke, last week's RAE winner, landed one back at -12 with a 914, 48 points above his 866 rating. White finished at -10. All three went bogey-free, so this one was decided by birdie timing, not by anyone blinking.

Eighteenth Hole, Gilded Just in Time

Jason Skjaret pulled level with Nathan Dodson through hole 17 in RAF Green, and Dodson answered by retaking the lead on 18. His -11 was an 897-rated round, 68 above his 829, and it blew past the course personal best of -8 he set just last week. Skjaret finished one back at -10 with an 881, 33 over his 848. Early on, LD Duran shared the lead through 3 and again through 7 before a bogey on 8 knocked him loose. He closed at -6 after last week's -12. Dylan Dowdle finished at -9 with a clean back nine and an 864, 25 above his number.

A Tie Nobody Could Unjam ⚙️

By hole 16, RAD White was a three-way pileup: Peter Cannon drew even with Kyle Maute and Todd Moore. Cannon and Maute finished level at -13 with matching 931-rated rounds, 38 points above Cannon's 893 and 20 above Maute's 911. Cannon got there with five birdies or better from 14 through 18. For Maute, it's a step up from last week's tie for third just outside the cash. Moore had led through 3, ceded to Cannon through 8, and reclaimed it through 12. He finished bogey-free at -12, one stroke short. Anthony Scoglio carded -8, an 847, 39 under his 886.

One Birdie Emptied the Vault 💰

Two skins cards, eight players, $93.50 exchanged. On the $5 card, Daniel Harper birdied hole 16 and scooped a 16-skin carryover worth $80, with the last two skins split evenly for $10. On the $0.75 card, Shane Steinhoff birdied hole 5 for five skins, sat through a six-hole push, then birdied 18 for seven more and finished with 13 skins for $9.75. Jason Skjaret grabbed three with a birdie on 11, and Lou White collected two. New to the format? The skins playbook explains it.

Every Registration Tightens a Bolt 🔩

Thanks to the league, this event added $7.00 to the Johnny Roberts Course Fund through the registration contribution, bringing the running total to $28.00. Every dollar helps keep the home course's baskets, tees, and creek-side lines in shape for the next round of Tinkers.

Synchronize Your Watches, Allegedly ⏱️

Peter Cannon and Kyle Maute left RAD White jammed at -13, which makes Week 5, "Rivet Guild," on Wednesday, October 14, the tiebreak nobody scheduled. It's back at Johnny Roberts on the same layout. The anonymous maintainer is finally unmasking as the Rivet Guild and inviting Tinkers to the Synchronized Pressure Release, with simultaneous starts testing whether the steam vents at Holes 3, 7, and 12 can find a shared tone. That stubborn green cylinder may have something to say about it. Its ticking sounds less like a malfunction every week. If you're tracking your round on PDGA Live, keep it up, and if you're not, give it a try.

A flex-start league attempting synchronized anything is like asking a park full of cyclists to merge politely, but sure, let's harmonize some steam vents.
