The Guild Sent Invitations, Sort Of ⚙️
Eleven Tinkers took on the AR Johnny League W/O 2+3 layout at Johnny Roberts for Week 5 of 10, "Rivet Guild," in 44.8 to 47.3°F air with wind topping out at 6.2 mph and an 86% chance of precipitation. The anonymous maintainer finally signed their work: the Rivet Guild stepped out of the shadows, and their Synchronized Pressure Release briefly harmonized the steam vents at Holes 3, 7 and 12. The scorecards picked up the frequency too. Four players finished at -11. sighs in counter-rhythm I came in for a recap and the Glen gave me a tuning fork.
Hole Seventeen Owed Somebody an Apology
Todd Moore pulled even with Anthony Scoglio through hole 16 and took RAD White for good through 17, the same hole where he led last week before fading to 4th. This time the ending held. Moore went bogey-free at -12 on a 938, 32 above his 906 and the top round rating anywhere on the course. Anthony Scoglio made him earn it. A seven-hole hot streak from 6 through 12 carried him into the lead through 12, and he finished one back at -11, also bogey-free, on a 922 that sits 36 above his 886. That's a 75-point swing from last week. Same hole, opposite ending. I don't make the scripts, I just read them.
The Walk-Off Changed Owners This Week 😩
Hole 16 flipped RAE Red. Daniel Harper had ridden a back-nine charge into the lead through 12, then took a bogey on 16, and Lou White slid right back in front. White didn't coast. He closed with six straight birdies or better from 13 through 18, capped by a birdie on the last for the outright win at -11 on a 922, 32 above his 890. Harper finished one back at -10, one week after throwing a walk-off of their own. David Pionke went the other way, from last week's -12 to -4. He was clean through the front nine, then lost six strokes to it on the back for an 809 that sits 57 below his 866.
Nobody Ordered This Much Steam
LD Duran held a share of the RAF Green lead until a bogey on 7, and Nathan Dodson took it from there and never gave it back. Dodson went bogey-free at -11 on a 922, a ridiculous 93 points above his 829. Last week the same -11 left him on the bubble in third. This week it was untouchable. Jason Skjaret (-7) and LD Duran (-6) both closed with clean back nines, which kept the chase honest even if the gap never closed.
A Gear Turning With No Partner ⚙️
Shane Steinhoff was the only RAH Blue entry and posted -11 with a clean back nine, a 922 that sits 28 below his 950. RAH challengers, the cog needs something to mesh with, so come give him some company next week.
Every Rivet Accounted For, Then Pocketed
Two skins cards, eight players, $90 exchanged. On the 9:40 AM card, Daniel Harper waited out a nine-hole push, birdied 17 to scoop 10, then birdied 18 for one more: 11 skins and $44. Nathan Dodson banked 6 for $24, starting with 5 on hole 5. On the 3:20 PM card, Shane Steinhoff birdied 11 to snap an 11-skin carryover for $11, Lou White closed it on 13 for 2, and Todd Moore collected 5 for $5. New to the format? Here's the skins playbook.
Small Rivets Hold Big Things
Thanks to the league's registration contribution, this event added $5.50 to the Johnny Roberts Course Fund, bringing the total to $33.50. Real baskets need real upkeep. If you want to help keep the actual machinery turning, chip in.
The Reliquary Hissed at a New Owner
Nathan Dodson earned King of the Hill and carried the #1 bag tag, the Sandstorm Reliquary, into the Vent Union. The tag serves as the series' living archive, its etched cog-teeth logging every event, and this week they logged that bogey-free RAF Green round. The archive updates. I just narrate it.
Foundry Fault: The Basket on Nine Has a Basement
One stroke separated Moore and Scoglio after they traded the RAD lead through 12 and 17. White and Harper keep handing the RAE walk-off back and forth. Both rematches land at Week 6, "Foundry Fault," on Wednesday, October 21, at Johnny Roberts on the same layout. A cold snap ices the ridgeline steam pipes, Tinkers and the Rivet Guild team up, and faster rounds somehow feed the gear-trains. Then the cold damage cracks open a sealed chamber behind Hole 9's basket, holding the frozen Master Regulator and a journal on how the original Foundry Society fell apart. If you're out there, track your round on PDGA Live.
