Week 2 · Oak Council
Park by Hole 5's basket and start with on Hole 6 of the layout.
The canopy closes overhead, transforming light and wind patterns. Players adjust to filtered sight lines and the particular acoustics of hardwood shade. A veteran's tree-knowledge becomes practical advantage as they read subtle wind through leaf movement invisible to others. The community ritual of the week becomes consultation—players gathering at the big oak on hole nine to compare notes before the back nine stretch.
*adjusts headset* Welcome back to the booth. Six weeks of plastic, chains and bag tags, staged on a public park course beside the ballfields. Somehow the standings still have plot.
Tuesday @ Springwood Players' Course runs six weeks in Whitsett, North Carolina, on a 19-hole park course that loops the baseball and soccer complex. It is flat, open, and has no water in play. The real hazards are the walkers, runners and soccer moms on the greenway, which the booth considers the most dramatic element of the whole season.
Same course every Tuesday. The booth has asked for a second venue. The booth has been ignored.
The optional buy-ins are the only part of this league that makes the wallet feel like it is in a drama. Pick what you can afford and skip what you cannot.
Two pools, one course. Both play the same league front 10 with Longs on holes 1, 2, 5, 6 and 9.
The course has 19 holes, including 12 and 12B, so a full round runs past the usual 18. Several transitions are long walks. The longest is 17 to 18, which is also where a lot of tired legs and tired opinions show up.
Water fountains sit at the pavilion beside hole 15's tee pad, a good refill point late in the round. Quieter weekday mornings help you dodge youth sports traffic and parking lots.
The guarantee comes from the platform, not from the local disc shop. The shop is a retail partner and sponsor, and the booth thanks it for supporting the league.
This league is run with the Burlington Area Disc Golf Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Burlington, North Carolina. The club works on promoting and developing disc golf in the area through course design, maintenance and improvement, events, education, community volunteering and service projects.
*checks clipboard* The booth would like to be clear on this. The people who keep this ground playable are volunteers, and the club's work is what makes a Tuesday league possible at all. Thank them with a fresh bag of disc and a pick-up of stray trash.
Five players shot an average of six under. The pot did not move because nobody hit an ace. That is what the booth calls a quiet episode, which is also the kind of episode that makes the leaderboard look dangerous.
Back to you in the booth. Watch for pedestrians, keep your tags close, and remember: it is still just plastic going into chains.
The $3.00 platform fee is the only amount here set by FL!PT Leagues. Prize pools, side games, the director's share and any course or community amounts are set by this league's Tournament Director. The PDGA fee is the PDGA's own per-player fee.
