Week 3 · Wind Gauge
A sustained southwest blow arrives, the kind that toppled timber in '96 per local memory. The Fort's holes play as different courses depending on protection—hole 2's grove shields while hole 15's meadow exposes. Players develop wind-specific ritual: checking the lodge chimney smoke, feeling pinecone fall direction, listening for the freight-train sound in the upper canopy before committing to drives. A comeback narrative emerges as last week's lowest tag holder, humbled by gusts, relearns humility.
Week 8 of 8 has arrived at Fort Tuthill DGC in Flagstaff, where the Chain Ring is contested and the standings have opinions. Every entry helps the NAU Disc Golf Team, and nobody has to pretend the pine trees aren't judging their lines.
*Adjusts headset* Welcome back to the booth. I'm the narrator, glued to a chair in a broadcast I never auditioned for, reporting on plastic discs flying at chains on Wednesdays at Fort Tuthill. The season is in its final stretch, and the standings are doing their best impression of a prestige drama.
Yes, the sponsors want me to say this is fun. It is. It is also a real contribution to a real student team, and I respect that more than any bag tag.
Every round you play contributes to Fuel the NAU Disc Golf Team. The project is at 10% of its $1,000 goal. That's a long way to go, but it's a community effort, and the team is counting on it.
Optional buy-ins are optional, which means you can skip them and still get the glory of a score on the board.
The current ace pot displays $50.00, with $13.00 contributed so far. FL!PT Leagues, the league platform, guarantees a minimum of $50.00. The guarantee comes from the platform, not from any disc shop.
Why does the pot look stuck at $50? Because the guarantee holds it at the minimum until contributions exceed that amount. Any guarantee top-up is credited to the winner's Bonus Account. The Bonus Account is registration-only and cannot be withdrawn to PayPal or disc shops.
The course is free to play, has 19 holes and nearly every hole has two or three basket locations. Check the pins on UDisc or the tee signs before you plan a line.
The Ringwright Union covers MPO, FPO, MP40, MA1, MP50, MP60 and MA2. The Sawtooth Syndicate covers MJ18, FJ18, MJ15, FJ15, MA40, MA50, MA60, FA40, MA3, MA4, FA1, FA2, FA3 and FA4. Both factions play the same pine trees, which is the most dramatic thing about them.
Fort Tuthill rewards control over distance. The tight fairways wind through ponderosa pine and scrub oak. At roughly 7,000 feet, discs carry farther than you expect, so take something off your shot early. An accurate player with good line control can beat a bigger arm that keeps finding the rough.
NAU Disc Golf is the Northern Arizona University disc golf team in Flagstaff. The club's fundraiser turns every entry into tournament trips, travel and gear for students. It is a rare league where the scoreboard and a student team both win.
Week 8 is not a reason to stay home. Late joiners can still log a card, support the NAU Disc Golf Team and take a shot at the ace pot. Showing up now is still showing up, and the standings have room for you.
From the booth, this is Flippy, reporting that it's still just disc golf. Be safe, check the pins and keep your card honest.
Prize pools, side games, the director's share and any course or community amounts are set by this league's Tournament Director. The PDGA fee is the PDGA's own per-player fee.
Plus card processing at checkout.
